On Sunday evening I went to support my friend Keiko (she is on my school) who was invited to a local church to share her testimony and play the violin - she is amazing!!!
By going with her I got to experience something very new to me - maybe it is because I am British and we are quite a conservative nation....but nearly the whole female population of the church and some of the men too came up and welcomed us 'Bem Vindo' and hugged us. Everyone was so kind to us, using the english they knew and where so happy when we said the words we knew in Portuguese.
Then we were taken into a side room, where cake, biscuits, drinks were all laid out - just for us (there was 4 of us in total)....it was so nice (the food was yummy too!!) I left the church feeling so loved and welcomed and I felt they really represented well that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of where we come from in the world.
I have and I think many others to, have a lot to learn from the Brazilian culture of sharing everything they have and welcoming everyone into their family as if you were actually their own relative!
