Sorry I have not communicated much over the last week - I have not been very well, with a stomach bug, fever and headaches... now feeling a lot better but my body is still weak....I hate being sick!
I have had a good week (apart form being ill!).
On Wednesday I got to teach some children from the favela about how we are all unique and all have gifts and talents. The lesson was a success and the children all responded well. I was faced with the sad reality that 3 boys in the group were not able to write and hardly read, they were about 11 years old...it breaks my heart and yet again made me realise how lucky I am, but also frustrated me that I was not able to help them with the activity due to the language barrier.
In class we have to design a project to cater for a group of children that are at risk. I am doing a day centre for children from 0-6 years old, to have a safe place to be, to learn, develop and have fun! Running alongside that I am going to set up a group for the children's mums to develop their skills and to work with them to get them into employment - so they can better support themselves and their children....who knows, one day this could be reality!
To live to the fullest and help everyone around me to reach their full potential in life...
