A Milestone...

Last week I feel I had reached a personal milestone....
I was able to communicate to a complete stranger in a shop and tell her what I wanted!!
OK, I did plan my trip and all the words I needed like.....I would like, gold, sandal's, in the window, my shoe size etc...and practised many times on how to say them.
I went to the shop and was so excited - and said my sentence in the best portuguese I could - and she understood BUT she didn't have my size, I was so sad...but I understood that she told me to come back on the Wednesday after another order...I went back on Wednesday - no order, so no shoes. By this point I was getting sad and giving up hope, so on Monday I decided to see if they had another order in (as it was a week later) and well...

Here are my new sandals that I was able to buy by talking portuguese!
(Don't you love the tan lines!?!)

To learn a language is a long stressful (at times) process. I am learning to not be so hard on myself, if I get something wrong, or don't know as many words as everyone else learning. This is not my strong point...but I am progressing each day...so buying my gold sandals is a big deal for me - I am proud of myself....5 weeks ago I freaked out when someone asked me 'How you doing?' I feel more confident to speak the language - and can better understand it when others talk - I generally just pick out the main words I recognise and hope for the best I have interpreted it correctly.

However there is progress in my abilities...and I wanted to share my success with others!! :0)
