I have now been in Brazil for two months, and I feel it is time to share just a few of the many things I have observed during this time. Some things are just different from England so I have noticed them, or it is just a really Brazilian thing to do....I find it so interesting to experience a new culture.
1. In Brazil weddings are held in the evening, the service on average at 8pm. It is also offence to go to a wedding without your nails being painted.
2. It is a very Brazilian to paint your nails - all the time...I am starting to get into this tradition.
3. They shower a lot - part of that is to do with the climate, but they are a very clean culture!
4. They talk fast and very loud, and very often talk over the top of each other, I think a lot more than other places I have been too.
5. The souther you go in Brazil, the whiter the people, the more north you go, the blacker people are. Today there is still quite a divide between blacks and whites.
6. Brazil seems to still very much be in the '90s era - compared to England and other countries.
7. They are so welcoming - people treat you like family members, always hugging and asking how you are....you feel so loved by a person you don't even know!!
8. The school system is very different here, they go to school for only 4 hours every day. So the younger ones in the morning and the older ones in the afternoon.
9. As a Brazilian Christian, they will not listen to secular music (generally)
10. They love beans and rice and coffee. They do not really eat breakfast. Lunch is the main meal of the day with lots of food - and a real social time. Dinner they will tend to just eat left overs from lunch.
When I started writing these things down, I found it really hard to remember all the things I have observed....there will be another post of this eventually....as there are SOOO many more things to share.
I am really liking this culture....and I still have so much to experience of it. When being out of your culture it really makes you reflect on your culture - well I have certainly been thinking about what England and my culture is like....the world is so diverse, I like it! :0)
