Last week two new boys came to live in the house...which means they consciously decided they no longer wanted to live on the streets, they want to change their life, they no longer want to do drugs, they want to go to school, they want to really pursue their future - SO EXCITING!!
Before they come and live in the Restoration House, they have a two week period in the Rescue House, to adjust to no longer living on the streets and to show they are committed to change. Originally there were three boys that were going to come to the Restoration House, but one of them ran away, he had just come out of youth prison and couldn't cope with reality so fled to the streets.
The two new boys have settled in really well. We have been playing volleyball with them this week, and getting to know them (with my limited Portuguese!). They are really nice boys. They have adjusted to the routine - the cleaning duties (all the boys have them, helps teach them responsibility and good self discipline). The boys cannot go to school until the new term in January, so are being tutored to help them with the basics, as they have had no education....they are 15 years old learning how to do sums like 2+2.
I am glad to see them here in the house, already changing so much. One of the boys we had met on the Friday nights when we go to the streets and hang out with the young people - and now he is in the house - which is really awesome!
Just pray that they stay strong and pursue their full potential and not get pulled back into drugs and the streets. There is a saying here that: a boy can leave the streets, but the streets will never leave him....
