ONE important party...

Last weekend I went to my first party for a one year old here in Brazil....and WOW they know how to have a good party!! Every detail is covered....popcorn trees for table decorations, yummy food, party bags, everything coloured coordinated, children's songs playing, and cake!

Here is the birthday girl Emily with her parents (they lead the DTS, which is based at the Lighthouse)....

The first birthday is the biggest...it is the most important. Originally in Brazil so many babies would not make it through their first year of birth, often the child would not be named, so there was less of an emotional connection if the baby died. The first birthday was a real mark that the baby had survived the hardest year of their life - hence why they have such a massive party...and the tradition has carried on!

In more wealthy area it is also a chance to boast and just be able to throw the biggest and most expensive party. I prefer the tradition of why the 1st year is so important, and I am glad now that it is more common for babies to survive.

For more photos - which I really do recommend you check out, click on this link which takes you to my friend Kelly's block, she was one of the photographers of the party....
