This week we have had 'team week' - planning, meetings, discussions, talks, prayers, plans for the year, bowling and more...
Jobs have been allocated, decisions for the children's groups have been made, the planning has started, and the team has bonded, hearts have been examined - it has been a busy week, it has been an intense week, it has been a good week. I now feel more ready for the year and know my purpose more of why I am in Brazil and what I am meant to be doing. (I know this is not a really detailed explanation of my 'team week' - but if you would like to know more I am happy to share - just didn't want this post to be crazy long!)
[I will be putting up some pictures next week, I only have a few so need to ask my fellow team mates to borrow theirs!....so keep your eye out]
Here is a little about what I will be doing:
* Co-leading a group with Beckie for girls aged 9-11 years. We will have group twice a week in the afternoon. We will be challenging and getting the girls to explore who they are, and about their life in all areas. We will also do sports, swimming, crafty and school type activities, and hopefully helping them grow in themselves and their relationship with God
* Working with the Integrated School's programme, co-leading a group. A local school (known as the worst in the slum) comes to the Lighthouse to do their 'extra-curriculum' activities with us. This generally consists of something sporty/group games, swimming and a classroom time where we can share with them about living good lives and biblical based principle, plus other things, but it is an awesome opportunity to share about Jesus with them, and help them grow as people.
At the moment these are the two main groups I will be involved in officially....but timetables and plans are still being worked out....so once I know more I will let you know!
Additional Jobs:
*I am also now 'birthday girl'...which means I keep an eye out for when a team member has a birthday (I counted there are 36 people on base now!!) and I make them a birthday cake....exciting!!
*When another team member goes back to her home country to give birth, I will be taking over one of her jobs too....volunteer care. So organising the volunteers coming and sorting out the logistics for them, and helping them when they are here....I am excited to do this job come April, as I love getting to know new people, and making people feel at home in new situations.
So yes....this is a little of what my year to come looks like, I am excited and ready to start!
