Building Confidence...

I have been working with the group of girls now for three weeks, and there is two things I have noticed, that make me upset, and make me wonder...

Not all of them can read....they are great at copying what is on the board, but not many have a real understanding of what they are copying! This makes me really sad....something that their education system should be teaching them is falling them massively. Something that I took for granted, and we expect....just does not happen here.

Before the girls even start their work in their books (they have books for writing Bible verses about who God says they are and about living life with Him and can draw in too)....The majority will ask for a rubber/eraser! They have no confidence in their abilities, and what they can do. We have one girl in our group, who is sometimes actually to scared to even try, because she thinks she is automatically going to fail!

....who is really focusing on their lives, or is encouraging these girls, who is taking time to spend with these girls to build their confidence, help them explore things they are good at, check their homework, spend time reading with them, encourage them to try new things, let them know it is ok to fail, work through the hard things, and celebrate with them their successes....Who?!

Well I am glad that this year I can walk alongside these girls, and help build their confidence in who they are as people, and in Christ. I look forward to eventually helping these girls to learn to read, to let them try new things, to have fun too...to build their confidence. I want to try and be that person...
