I am going to be positive about my language skills...by far I am not fluent, and have a long way to go....but I can communicate, and read, and even understand (sometimes!) But I reflected over my week, and I realised that I am progressing....and I wanted to share my success with others....not for praise but because I always mention my language abilities in a negative light, so I am going to look at actually what I can do...
I can direct a taxi to get back to wear I live...(I learnt my directions using Rosetta Stone)
I can understand the directions on a packet to make Jelly...
I can buy bus tickets to another place...
I gave my announcement in the staff meeting in Portuguese
I had a random conversation with a man on the bus, who knew someone I knew, and it was in Portuguese....I didn't understand every word, but I understood enough.
I can explain basic instructions to my group: 'please write the bible verse, after you can draw a picture'
SO.... I am progressing - and if I really think and stop about it, I am proud of myself, as this is probably the hardest thing I have had to do in my whole life....learn a new language and live in a new country - basically live a totally different live...and I am doing it!!
